Atlas VTT

A quick tour

Find your way around the dashboard, the Asset Manager and a scene.

Take a look at the three places you use most in Atlas: the dashboard, the Asset Manager and a scene. You do not need to change anything yet.

The dashboard

The dashboard is where you start. To open it, see Install Atlas.

The Atlas dashboard with its two tiles and the recent scenes.
  • The large card at the top opens your last scene (Continue your adventure). Before you have a scene, it reads Create your first scene.
  • Create Scene opens your maps, so you can build a scene from one.
  • Asset Manager opens your library.
  • Recent Scenes lists the scenes you changed last. Click one to open it.

The Asset Manager

The Asset Manager is your library, with everything you bring to the table.

The Asset Manager: tabs in the middle, collection and tags on the left, the create button on the right.

The tabs at the top sort your things by type:

  • Scenes: maps you play on. A scene keeps its grid, tokens, fog and notes.
  • Maps: map images. You build scenes from them.
  • Encounters: groups of tokens you saved to place together. See Save and spawn encounters.
  • Characters: your tokens. A token is the picture of a character or creature that you move on the map.

On the left, under Collection, you choose the collection. A collection holds the scenes, maps, tokens and encounters of one campaign or adventure. The gear button next to it opens Collection settings, and your Tags are below it.

The + button at the top right creates things: Create Token, Add Map and Create Collection.

The first time you open the Asset Manager, a short tutorial points out the tabs and the collections.

A scene

An open scene fills the tab. The open scenes show as tabs at the top, and the toolbar is at the bottom.

A scene with the scene tabs at the top and the toolbar at the bottom.

The toolbar holds the tools you use during play:

  • Move/Select (V): select and move tokens.
  • Fog Tool (F): hide parts of the map. See Fog of war.
  • Draw Tool (B) and Text Tool (T): draw and write on the map.
  • Measure Line (M): measure distances. See Draw, write and measure.
  • Note Pin Tool (P): pin a note to a place. See Link notes to the map.
  • Roll Dice (R): open the dice tray. See Roll dice.
  • Loot Roller (L): roll treasure. See Roll loot.
  • Asset Manager (A): open your library.
  • Command Palette (Space): find tools, modes and settings. See The command palette.

A small arrow next to some tools opens their options. When the window is narrow, the tools that do not fit move into a More tools menu.

Press Tab to open the DM screen, which shows the scene's note beside the statblocks of the creatures on the map. See The DM screen.

To move around the map, drag with the right mouse button. How you zoom depends on the Input device setting in Atlas' settings, under Navigation. With Mouse you scroll to zoom. With Trackpad you pinch to zoom, and scrolling with two fingers moves the map.

GM View and Session View

The switch at the right end of the toolbar changes how you see the scene. Press D to flip it.

Switch from GM View to Session View and back.

GM View shows everything. Fog is half transparent, so you can see the map below it, and hidden tokens and note pins show too.

Session View shows the scene as your players see it: fog is solid, and hidden tokens and note pins are gone.

Press ? in a scene to see all keyboard shortcuts, or see Map hotkeys.
