Host an online table

Let your players join your map from their browsers, with a link and a code.

With Atlas Online, your players sit at your table from a web browser on their computer, tablet or phone. You run the game in Atlas as always. They see the map you show them, move their own tokens and roll their own dice, and they need no Obsidian and no account.

Redeem your invite key

  1. Sign in on your account page with Discord, GitHub or a code by email.

  2. Under Online play, type the key from your invitation into Invite key and click Redeem. A beta key only works for an account with Discord linked. If you signed in another way, link Discord under Sign-in methods first.

Turn on online play

  1. Press Space to open the command palette and open Experimental features.

  2. Turn on Online play. A globe button appears at the bottom left of every map.

Turn on Online play under Experimental features.

Sign in from Atlas

  1. Click the globe button, then Sign in to host. Your browser opens, and Atlas shows a code of eight letters and numbers.

The online play button at the bottom left of the map.
  2. Check that the browser shows the same code, then click Approve. Atlas signs you in.

Atlas waits while you approve the code in your browser.

You stay signed in on this computer. You can also sign in and out in Obsidian's settings for Atlas, under Online account.

Start a table

A table plays one of your campaigns. The players you admit belong to that campaign, so they come back to it next session with their own codes. If you have no campaign yet, click Open dashboard in the menu and make one with New campaign.

  1. Click the globe button. Under Campaign, choose the campaign you play tonight.

  2. Click Start online table. A green dot on the globe button shows that the table is open.

Choose the campaign, then start the table.

Keep Obsidian open while you play. Your players' browsers get the map, the tokens and the dice from your Atlas. If Obsidian closes, your players wait for you, and the table opens again when you come back.

Invite your players

  1. Click Copy invite link and send the link to your group, for example in your Discord channel. Players at the table with you can scan it from the QR code button next to it.

The online panel with the invite link, the join code and a player at the table.
  2. Send them the join code too. Click the row that shows it, for example Code 483 912, to copy it.

  3. When a player types the code, a card with their name appears above the globe button. Click Admit to let them in, or Decline.

A player asks to join, and the GM admits them.

Each admitted player gets a personal code. Next session they type it in place of the join code and sit down at once. See Players and their tokens.

The … menu at the top of the panel has two switches, both on for a new table. With Require code off, players can join without the join code. With Ask before players join off, a player with the right code comes in without a card. New code makes a new join code, and the old one stops working.

Show a map to your players

Your online players see the same scene as the player view: the scene with the eye on its tab. Fog, hidden tokens and GM notes stay with you.

To show another scene, open it and click Show this map to players in the online panel.

Stop the table

Click the stop button (Stop table) at the top of the online panel. When players are at the table, Atlas asks Stop for everyone? first.

Stop the table for everyone.

Your players' page waits until you start a table for the campaign again. Their link and their codes stay the same.
