Roll loot
Keep your items as notes, roll random loot from them on any map, and show what the party finds to your players.
The loot roller draws random items from your own notes, and you can show each item to your players in the player view.
Write your items as notes
The loot roller finds your item notes through an Obsidian base. A base is an Obsidian file that lists notes as a table, with filters.
Make one note per item. Give it properties, for example:
--- type: Weapon rarity: Rare price: 500 description: A blade that hums near the undead. ---An item note with its type, rarity, price and description. Make a base that lists your item notes. Every view of the base, like Weapons or Tier 2, becomes a list the loot roller can draw from, with the view's own filters.
Atlas picks up Price, Rarity, Type and Description by name. Cost, Quality, Category and Effect work too. The view's other columns show on the item's card, under the names the base gives them.
Rarity gives the item its colour: uncommon green, rare blue, epic purple, legendary orange. Common items stay plain. "Very rare" counts as epic, and "artifact" as legendary.
Add your bases to the collection
Open the collection settings on the Loot tab. The loot roller also has a Set up loot button while it has no bases.
Click Add Loot Base and choose your base. You can add several. Atlas shows how many views and items it found in each, and keeps track of a base you rename or move.
Type your currency under Currency, for example "gold". Prices that are plain numbers read in this currency, like "500 gold". Each roll keeps the currency it was made with.
Click Save.
Roll
Click Loot Roller in the toolbar, or press L. The Loot window opens. Drag its header to move it, and each map remembers where you left it.
Under Roll from, tick whole bases, or open one and tick single views. Rolls draw only from ticked views, and an item in several of them counts once.
If your items name rarities, each rarity shows how many of its items you can roll. Click one to leave its items out, say for a village market.
Choose how many items to draw with − and +. Click Roll loot. Every item left has the same chance.
Tick two views, set three items and roll loot.
Read the results
Latest roll shows the last roll on this map. History keeps every roll in the collection, from all its maps, so you can look up what the party found last session. Remove one roll with Remove this roll, or all of them with Clear history.
Each item card shows its type and price first, then the description and the view's columns. Click the note button (Open the note of and the item name) to read or edit the item's note. Your changes reach future rolls, and rolls already made keep what they drew.
Hand it to your players
Click the eye button on an item card (Show to players). The item shows in the player view, in a Loot received window large enough to read across the table.
Show more items and they stack. Players close the window with a click outside or Esc. Click the eye button again (Hide from players) to take an item back.
