Tokens in detail
Name, size, HP bars, conditions and hiding for the tokens on your map.
Once a token is on the map, you can name it, change its size, track its hit points and conditions, and hide it from your players.
The token menu
Right-click a token to open its menu. When several tokens are selected and you right-click one of them, Conditions and Hide work on all selected tokens.
Name and nameplate
Right-click the token and click Edit Token.
Type a name in Name.
Turn on Show Nameplate to show the name under the token.
Click Save, or press Enter.
The Edit Token window.
To show the names of all tokens on the map, press Space to open the command palette. Click Token settings and turn on Show nameplates.
Size
Right-click the token and open Size. Choose Medium (1×1), Large (2×2), Huge (3×3) or Gargantuan (4×4).
You can also drag a size handle. See Resize and rotate.
To give a token a size before you place it, right-click its card in the Characters tab of the Asset Manager and open Size. Every token you place from that card starts at this size.
Resize and rotate
Click a token to select it. Its handles show around it:
- The handles on the left and right change its size. Drag outward to grow the token one square at a time, inward to shrink it.
- The handle at the top turns the token in steps of 15°. Hold Shift for steps of 45°.
When several tokens are selected, the size handles change all of them.
HP and other resource bars
A token with hit points shows an HP bar under it. Some game systems add a second bar, the secondary resource, for example Stress in Daggerheart.
A token linked to a statblock gets its HP from the statblock. See Use Fantasy Statblocks with Atlas. A token without a statblock has no bar until you give it a maximum.
Change the current value
Select the token, then change a bar in one of two ways:
- Click − or + beside the bar to change it by 1.
- Click the bar to open a small editor under it. Type a number, or a change like
-7or+5. Press Enter to apply or Esc to cancel.
In the editor, the arrow keys change the value by 1, or by 10 while you hold Shift. Tab moves between the current and the maximum value.
Change the maximum
Right-click the token and click Edit Token.
Under Resources, type a number in Max HP or Max Secondary Resource.
Click Save.
On a linked token, this number is for this token only and the statblock stays as it is. To use the statblock's value again, clear the field with the × button beside it. The empty field shows the statblock value, for example "Statblock default: 7".
To show or hide the bars on the whole map, click Token settings in the command palette and use Show HP bars and Show secondary resource bars.
Kill and reset
The menu of a token with HP has two more entries. Kill sets the token's HP to 0. Reset (Full HP, Clear Status) fills its HP, sets the secondary resource to 0 and removes all its conditions.
Conditions
A condition is a state like Poisoned or Prone. It shows as a badge on the token's ring. Hover the token to see the names of its conditions.
Right-click the token and open Conditions.
Click a condition to add it. Click it again to remove it.
The Conditions menu with a number stepper.
The menu stays open, so you can set several conditions in a row.
Conditions is only in the menu when your collection has conditions, which come from its game system. See Game system presets.
Conditions with a number
Some conditions have a number, for example Frightened 2 in Pathfinder or Exhaustion in D&D 5e. They show − and + beside their name in the menu. Click these to change the number, or move to the condition with the arrow keys and press + or -.
The badge on the token shows the number. When you lower it to 0, the condition goes away.
With several tokens selected, the menu shows how many have each condition, for example "Poisoned (2/3)". Clicking it gives the condition to all of them.
Hide a token from players
Right-click the token and click Hide. The token turns half transparent for you, and your players do not see it in the player view.
Click Show in the same menu to make it visible again.
Ring color
Right-click the token and open Ring Color to give its ring a color, for example red for enemies and blue for allies. Default returns to the normal ring.
