Game system presets

Set a collection's measurement, conditions and token bars for your game in one click, or save your own rules as a preset.

A preset is a saved set of rules for one game: how the ruler measures, which conditions tokens can have and which bars they show. Every collection in your vault can use it.

The built-in presets

Atlas ships these presets. You cannot rename or delete them.

Apply a preset

  1. On the Game System tab, click a preset.

Pick a preset on the Game System tab.
  2. Click Save.

When you save, every scene of the collection changes:

  • The ruler and the drag distance measure with the preset's rules.
  • The HP bar and the secondary resource bar turn on or off as the preset says.
  • Tokens lose conditions that the new preset does not have. Nothing of the previous game system stays.
  • Widgets the preset adds show in every scene. Widgets from the previous preset go away. Widgets you made yourself stay.

You can also choose a game system when you create a collection, under Game system in the New collection window.

The Shadowdark torch

The Shadowdark Torch timer at the top right of the map.

Shadowdark adds a timer called Torch that starts at one hour and counts down. It shows in every scene of the collection with the same time, and players can see it. See Widgets for how to start and reset it.

Change a preset's rules for one collection

You can change the rules on the other tabs, for example add a condition. The preset then gets an Edited tag, and your changes apply only to this collection.

An edited preset with its reset button.

To go back to the preset's rules, click the round arrow button next to it (Reset to and the preset name).

To keep your changes for other collections too, save them as a new preset with Save as Preset. For a preset you made yourself, you can also open its Preset actions menu and choose Save changes to preset.

Make your own preset

  1. Set the rules on the Grid & Measure, Default Widgets and Conditions tabs.

  2. On the Game System tab, click Save as Preset.

  3. Type a name and press Enter. Each preset needs its own name.

Save the collection's rules as a new preset.
  4. Click Save to close the settings.

The new preset shows in the list of every collection in your vault. You can also make one while you create a collection: choose Create your own under Game system, then click Next.

To rename your preset, open its Preset actions menu and choose Rename.

Delete a preset

  1. Open the Preset actions menu of your preset and choose Delete.

  2. Read the message and click Delete.

Every collection that used the preset goes back to no game system:

  • The ruler measures 5 ft squares, and every diagonal counts 1.
  • Tokens lose the preset's conditions.
  • The widgets the preset added and the bars it turned on go away.
