Find characters fast

Search the Characters tab by name and tag, and filter creatures by challenge rating, type and other statblock fields.

The search field of the Characters tab finds the right creature in a large collection by its name, a tag or its statblock.

Search by name

  1. Press A to open the Asset Manager and open the Characters tab.

  2. Click the search field at the top, or press Ctrl + F (Cmd + F on macOS).

  3. Type part of a name.

While you search, the list shows matches from the open folder and every folder inside it. To clear the search, click the × in the field.

Type a filter

A filter has the form keyword:value, for example type:beast, and you type it in the search field. Atlas suggests keywords and the values your characters have. Press Tab or Enter to take a suggestion.

When you press Enter or take a suggestion, each filter leaves the text and becomes a chip above the list. Plain words stay in the field and search the names.

Type cr>=5 and type:dragon, then press Enter.
Type thisTo find
type:beastCharacters of that type
cr:5Challenge rating 5
cr>=5Challenge rating 5 or higher. >, < and <= work too.
cr:1/4-3Challenge rating from 1/4 to 3
level:3, tier:2Level or tier, the same way as cr
trait:undeadA trait
rarity:rareA rarity
alignment:evilAn alignment. evil finds Lawful Evil and Chaotic Evil.
source:"Monster Manual"A source. Use quotes when the value has spaces.
layout:"Basic 5e Layout"A Fantasy Statblocks layout
tag:forestCharacters with that tag
statblock:noCharacters without a linked statblock. statblock:yes finds those with one.
name:goblinPart of the name

Atlas only suggests statblock keywords that the characters in view have values for. For example, Pathfinder statblocks have a level, D&D statblocks a challenge rating.

Leave something out

Put - in front of a filter to hide what it names: -type:undead shows everything except undead, and so does type!=undead. You can do this with type, trait, rarity, alignment, source and layout.

Use the filter panel

The filter panel shows the same filters with buttons and sliders.

  1. Click the Filters button at the right end of the search field. The number on it tells you how many filters are active.

  2. Set what you want:

    • Under Statblock, choose All, With statblock or Without.
    • Drag the ends of a slider, such as Challenge rating, to set a range.
    • Click an option, such as a type, to require it. Double-click it, or hold Alt and click, to exclude it. Click it again to clear it.

  3. Click Done. Reset clears every filter.

When you pick two options of one filter, characters with either one show. Alignment is different: a character must have every part you pick.

At the bottom, the panel tells you what it hides because a statblock lacks a field, for example "Hidden: 3 without challenge rating".

The Filters button only works on the Characters tab.

Remove filters

Every active filter shows as a chip above the list.

  • Click a chip to remove that filter.
  • A chip with a number holds several values. Point at it to see them, then click one to remove it, or click Remove all.
  • Click Reset at the end of the chips to remove every filter.

Sort by rating

Click the sort button in the header. Each click moves to the next order: Name, Date modified, Type and Rating. The arrow button beside it switches between ascending and descending.

Rating sorts by challenge rating, level or tier, whichever the statblock has. Characters without a rating come last.

Choose which filters show

Each collection can turn filters off, or add filters for other statblock fields. You set this on the Creature Filters tab of the collection settings. See Collection settings.
