Link notes to the map
Put pins on the map that open your Obsidian notes or other scenes.
Note pins put your notes on the map: click a pin and its note opens. A pin is a marker that links to a note in your vault. Only you see the pins, never your players.
Place a pin
Click Note Pin Tool in the toolbar, or press P.
Click the map where the pin goes. A panel opens next to the click.
The pin panel: icons at the top, note search below. Choose an icon in the top row. See Pick an icon.
Type part of the note name in Search notes and maps.... Use the arrow keys to choose a note and press Enter. If the note has headings, Atlas lists them: press Enter again to link the whole note, or choose a heading. Press Esc to cancel.
Place a pin and link it to a note.
To link a heading inside a note, type the note name, then #, then the heading, for example Goblin Cave#Room 3.
Open a note from a pin
Click a pin to open its note in a new tab. Use the Move/Select tool for this, because with the Note Pin Tool a click also starts a new pin. To see a preview of the note, hold Ctrl (Cmd on macOS) and point at the pin.
Drag a pin to move it. Right-click it for more actions: Open Note, Edit Pin, Duplicate and Delete. Use Edit Pin to change the icon or the linked note.
Pick an icon
The top row of the panel has the icons you need most, such as Treasure, Combat, Boss, Trap, Quest and NPC. New pins use the icon you picked last.
Numbered (1, 2, 3…) and Lettered (A, B, C…) give each new pin the next free number or letter. Use them for keyed rooms, like "Room 3" in your adventure notes.
The Location slot opens more places, grouped from a whole realm down to a single room: Realm, Wilderness, Landmarks, Town and Interior.
Link a scene
A pin can also open another scene. Scenes show in the search with the label Map, and a click on such a pin opens the scene in Atlas.
The search only shows scenes of the same collection as the current scene. A collection holds the scenes, maps, tokens and encounters of one campaign or adventure.
Link a note to a hex
On a hex grid, you can link a note to a whole hex instead of a point, which is useful for hex crawls.
Select the Note Pin Tool.
Hold Shift. The hex under the pointer lights up.
Click the hex while you hold Shift, then choose a note.
Shift-click a hex to link a note to it.
A linked hex shows its pin in the centre of the hex. With the Move/Select tool, point at the hex to highlight it and click it to open the note.
Right-click a linked hex for Open Note, Change Note and Unlink Hex. Each hex holds one note. To change the note, Shift-click the hex again with the Note Pin Tool.
If you line up the grid again later, the note stays on the same part of the map.
