Track initiative

Open the initiative tracker, roll and sort the turn order, and step through the rounds of a fight.

When a fight breaks out, the initiative tracker lists the tokens on the map in turn order. You step through the fight turn by turn, and your players see whose turn it is.

Open the tracker

Press I on the map. The tracker opens on the right side of the map, and I closes it again.

You can also turn on Show initiative tracker in Widget settings (press Space to open the command palette and click Widget settings), or run the Obsidian command Toggle initiative tracker.

Who is in the tracker

Every token on the map joins the tracker on its own. Each card shows the token's portrait, its initiative number and its HP bar, and marks a token with 0 hit points as defeated.

To take a token out, right-click its card and choose Remove from Initiative. It stays out, even when you move it, until you right-click the token on the map and choose Add to Initiative. A token you delete from the map leaves the tracker.

Click a card to zoom the map to its token. Hold Ctrl (Cmd on macOS) and point at a card to see the token's statblock.

Set the order

  1. Click the dice button at the top of the tracker. Atlas rolls a d20 for every card and sorts the cards from highest to lowest.

  2. To sort them by hand, turn off Auto-sort by initiative in Widget settings.

  3. Drag a card up or down to change its place.

Drag a card to a new place in the order.

Right-click a card for more choices:

  • Roll Initiative: rolls a new d20 for this card only.
  • Edit Initiative: type a number, then press Enter. Esc cancels.
  • Move to Front and Move to Back.

Run the fight

  1. Click the crossed swords button at the top of the tracker. Combat starts in round 1, and the first card is highlighted.

  2. Click the down arrow under the cards, or press ↓, to go to the next turn. After the last card, the next round starts.

Start combat and step through the turns.
  3. Click the up arrow, or press ↑, to go back one turn.

  4. Click the white flag button to end combat.

The round number shows between the arrows, for example "R2".

What players see

While the tracker is open, the player view shows the order: each card's portrait and initiative number, with a highlight on whose turn it is. During combat it also shows the round. Hidden tokens stay out of it.

Names show only when Show nameplates is on, and HP bars only when Show HP bars is on.
