Atlas VTT

Brand and extension policy

How to name, describe and badge what you make for Atlas VTT, so that players can tell community work from ours and know where to get help. Last changed on 2026-10-21.

What you can always do

You can always say in plain words that your work is for Atlas VTT, works with it or needs it. That is a fact, and you need no permission from us to state it.

Making something for Atlas? Start with Make things for Atlas.

Names

Give your work a name of its own, and put Atlas after “for”. “Lanternlight for Atlas VTT” is fine. “Atlas Lanternlight” and “Atlas VTT Extension - Lanternlight” are not.

  • Don’t start a name with “Atlas” or “AVTT”.
  • Don’t use “Atlas Online” in a name.
  • Don’t put “Official”, “Online”, “Edition” or “Extension” beside the Atlas name.
  • For a new Obsidian plugin, don’t start its plugin id with atlas-vtt.

These rules are for tabletop and Obsidian projects that work with Atlas VTT.

The notice

Put this sentence at the start of your directory description and your README, and on every screen of your work that offers online play, accounts or payment:

[Name] is a community extension. It is not made, endorsed or supported by Atlas VTT or Atlas Online.

Give your own support link beside it, so that a player with a problem finds you.

Look and feel

Don’t use the Atlas logo or icon, apart from the badge below. A button or menu that your extension adds inside Atlas carries your extension’s name, so players can tell it from the controls of Atlas.

The badge

Work that follows these rules may show the “Compatible with Atlas VTT” badge.

  • Show the badge as it comes, and smaller than the name of your extension.
  • Never put “certified”, “approved” or “official” beside it.
  • If we ask you to take it down, do so within 30 days.

Forks of Atlas VTT

The AGPL lets you fork Atlas VTT. A fork needs its own name, its own plugin id and you as its author. Keep our copyright notice and credit, and say clearly that your fork is a modified version.

The AGPL covers the code. It does not cover the names Atlas VTT and Atlas Online or the Atlas logo.

Online play

Atlas Online is the only official way to play Atlas online. An extension that connects players says which servers it uses, as Obsidian’s developer policies require.

If something looks wrong

Tell us on Discord or at support@atlas-vtt.dev. We first ask the author directly and give them time to fix it.

Atlas VTT and Atlas Online are names of products by Fabian Urbanek.
