Fog of war

Hide parts of the map from your players and reveal them during play.

Cover parts of the map with fog and remove it again as your players explore. Only you, the game master, can draw or remove fog.

Choose a fog tool

The fog button in the toolbar holds two tools: the Fog Tool adds fog and the Fog Eraser removes it.

Press F to select the fog tool, and F again to switch between Fog Tool and Fog Eraser. E also selects the Fog Eraser.

Choose a shape

  1. Click the small arrow next to the fog button to open the fog options.

The fog options: tools, shapes, brush size and Delete All Fog.
  2. Choose a shape. Both fog tools use the shape you choose.

    • Brush: paint freely. Set the width with Brush Size.
    • Lasso: draw around an area. Atlas closes the shape when you release the mouse button.
    • Rectangle: drag from one corner to the opposite corner. The corners snap to the grid.

Cover and reveal

  1. Select the Fog Tool and drag over the area you want to hide.

Cover a room with the Rectangle shape.
  2. When your players enter the area, select the Fog Eraser and drag over the part they can see.

Reveal a corridor with the Fog Eraser and the Brush shape.

Every fog stroke is one step you can undo with Ctrl + Z (Cmd + Z on macOS).

Remove fog

To remove one patch of fog, right-click it and choose Delete. To remove all fog from the scene, open the fog options and click Delete All Fog.

What your players see

Your players see solid fog in the player view. In GM View the fog is half transparent for you, so you always know what is under it. Press D to switch to Session View and see the fog as your players do.
